Jamal Malik, 18 year-old orphan from slums of Mumbai, is in the middle of the television show watched by the whole country, an Indian version of “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire”. He is just one question away from the biggest prize of the show. However, some people including those associated with the game, question how come a teen from slums of Mumbai which not well educated, can go further than other people who are more educated, and wealthier than him.

When the show breaks for the night, the police arrest him on his way back from the show. During the investigation, feel hopeless to prove his innocence, he tells his story on how to answer the question. The chief police play the recorded show on a tape and he tells the story about how he can answer it, based on his experience and his past. This story including his dark past, his brother that survived with him, the hard life with the local gangs, and the girl he loved, Latika.

After hear about Jamal story, the police chief start to see that he is really able to answer those question based by his life experience. But the chief police still question, why would Jamal joined the game, since he cannot see any apparent desire of being rich in Jamal self.

However, the chief police let him free on the new day dawn. During his way back to the show, he can see every where people are really interested about his way answering the last question on the show that no one ever had reached before. In this final part of the movie, the audience will see the really motivation of him joining the game, how his life is going to be, and the story about how his brother and Latika affect him to answer the last question of the game.
